I was just sat looking at the mail saying my bridge has frozen (again...). I wondered if it would be possible to create a network connected device that could cycle the power to the bridge to get it to unfreeze. When it freezes you could send a request to your home IP address to get it to reboot the bridge.

Discuss....!

(of course it would be better if it didnt freeze in the first place!)

Also, when it freezes, does it 'crash' or just drop off the network? Can the bridge code be updated so when it fails to send an update it realises its frozen and reboots?

I think somewhere it is posted by Admin that the new NetSmart ones should auto reboot.

However, that does not always seem to work and I suspect if the issue is on the server or servers it may still think it is uploading okay.

Buy yourself a programmable mains plug timer and set it to switch off/on every 3 hours.

The Aviosys USB Net Power 8800 is a cheaper (£40) remote power switch option. It is managed via a USB connection so will need a network USB hub (£20).

Well, my new one is forzen *again* today, so its time for action.

Its been up for 13 days.

I'm going for the cheap option, a timer plug. I have a spare one. I will set it to switch off at 1 or 2am for a 'click' - that will be either 15 ot 30 mins on my el-cheapo asda socket. This will be fine as I'm using it to upload solar generation data to pvoutput.org so I wont loose anything!
