Ok

So per this post, where I went into detail how I noticed I was having a problem with the multicast mac my bridge has
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=34&start=29

I notice the second gen bridges are using a better mac
http://currentcost.posterous.com/?tag=bridge
The bridge MAC address is 00-08-DC + the last 6 characters of the bridge serial number.
For 1st Gen bridges, the bridge MAC address is the last 12 characters of the bridge serial number.

So since my in switch is using last 12 characters I assume I have a 1st gen bridge, how do I change its mac?? Mine has a multicast mac that starts with 7f, and is causing me some grief since I want to be able to do igmp snooping and block multicast traffic.

But when I turn it on my switch blocks the bridge from talking to my gateway because of the multicast mac it has. 7f, which if you look at the least significant bit of 7f 0111 1111, you see its a 1 which means multicast vs it being a 0 which would mean unicast.

Well I have gotten this ticket I do believe

support request #672697

About my multicast mac, and got some emails about filling out form to return. But not really happy about my bridge being offline for an extended period. Have asked about how long the process should take, have not gotten a response.

Also since there is no way for me to flash to fix the mac, how about just send me replacement bridge - and then I send my bridge with old mac back. Now my bridge only offline for few minutes it takes me to swap them.

Be happy to give CC# as deposit until you get my old bridge back, etc.

Did you get anywhere yet John?

I've just Emailed Current Cost about two bridges I just recedived. Neither are arp'ing on my Cisco 3550 switch, and I can't work out what they think their MAC should be from teh serial numbers.

I'm running some tests over the next couple of days to work out why this is happening for some users with the new bridge. Bear with me, hope to have news by the start of next week.

As today's results have got messed up for whatever reason I have tried a couple more DHCP server options.

1. Buffalo NFiniti

Result - Lease not given :(

2. DLink E3000 Flashed with DD-WRT Firmware

Result - Lease given :)

Also I know a Microsoft DHCP server will give a lease after trying for several minutes.

Also Netgear DGN1000 works but not the newer model.

All the Netsmart seems to do is flash the green LED very rapidly.

Automan.

Did I get anywhere?

Not sure what you mean, I had my issue worked out as soon as I noticed it had a multicast mac and my switch had igmp snooping enabled. Soon as I disabled the snooping it allowed the traffic and getting ip from my dhcp server just fine.

Now what I have not gotten anywhere with is why I have to send them my bridge to get them to change the mac, why can they not just send me a new one and will send back the old one, or send me a tool to flash the thing myself, etc.

Its about time I sent another email, I have sent a few and have not gotten a response to my ticket number #672697

They want me to fill out some form to for an RMA I guess, but nobody will give me any timeline of how long my bridge will be gone.. I would have to assume weeks since sending to the UK?? Which is just not really acceptable to be honest.

My bridge works, just can not turn on igmp snooping on my switch - which I would like too, but not that big of a deal.
