I am still looking for alternatives to GPM and have come across a promising one. People Power Co., and they have just recently opened up their system for developers to connect devices via open APIs.

here is more info:

People Power created a Developer Portal to connect external developers' devices to People Power's Energy Services Platform. We opened up all API's to the Energy Services Platform, allowing developers to leverage the power of the ESP to connect their devices through the Internet. . All the information you need to get started can be found in the ESP Developer Documentation.

To quickly connect devices to the ESP, we empower developers with the "Internet of Things SDK", or IOT SDK for short. Under a BSD license, the IOT SDK is available for download in our Developer site and on GitHub.

And here is the link - http://peoplepowerco.com/opensource/

Any developers out there keen to have a look and judge how easy it would be to connect a CC or bridge? I'd really like to know.
