I have three of the original IAMs, although a general backlog of home projects means that i've only just got around to thinking about updating my hacked-together Perl code for parsing the XML from the Envi meter to really make use of the output. Anyway, while Googling I noticed that the IAMs have taken on a new design, and was wondering if there's a functional difference - the other post on this forum says "the MkII IAM's for the UK market that measure AC Watts? Volts x Amps x Power Factor", which suggests that there is? i.e. that the MkI ones don't do this? So does this imply that the MkI ones are ok as a 'switch' (detecting tumble drier on/tumble drier off) but not as an accurate reading, especially for lower power, always-on devices?

Also I get the impression that a second generation bridge may handle IAM output, is this a definite commitment that it WILL do this (... and I can retire my always-on Viglen MPC-L...) or just a wishlist item? I have the original bridge, but the functionality is rather limited to updating Google PowerMeter (RIP) - although, to be fair, I doubt it's intended for people who like the idea of hacking together their own monitoring code...

Sorry if it's written down somewhere on the CC website, I couldn't find it.

The MkI output the same data as the MkII IAM's

The MkI's are physically smaller and have the antenna which can be angled if required.

Re accuracy the MkII's seem better and the MkI's only measured the load current.

This can cause the reading to be wrong reading high watts when the device is only drawing under 1watt and may also be out reading a load with a AC induction motor in it.

Automan.

do you mean that it measures true power ie allows for the pf? Does that mean that it measures both the voltage and the current ie with 2 separate connections? How? John
