Ok
So per this post, where I went into detail how I noticed I was having a problem with the multicast mac my bridge has
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=34&start=29I notice the second gen bridges are using a better mac
http://currentcost.posterous.com/?tag=bridgeThe bridge MAC address is 00-08-DC + the last 6 characters of the bridge serial number.
For 1st Gen bridges, the bridge MAC address is the last 12 characters of the bridge serial number.
So since my in switch is using last 12 characters I assume I have a 1st gen bridge, how do I change its mac?? Mine has a multicast mac that starts with 7f, and is causing me some grief since I want to be able to do igmp snooping and block multicast traffic.
But when I turn it on my switch blocks the bridge from talking to my gateway because of the multicast mac it has. 7f, which if you look at the least significant bit of 7f 0111 1111, you see its a 1 which means multicast vs it being a 0 which would mean unicast.
